The Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary Long Range
Plan is presented in two formats. The current
design
drawings show the concept in abstract
form, illustrating the logic and the basic
structure of the developments components
and circulation systems. A Diagrammatic Layout
shows the development in more realistic view,
as it would physically appear on site.
These Plans show the preliminary size and
locations of the various facilities, display
areas and other components indicative.
Several options are presented in these plans.
- The proposed general scope of the development
- Public and service circulation
- Components of the first stages of the
development
- Rudimentary size and area of the components
- Approximate locations of all facilities
- Spatial and functional relationships
between each aspect of the plan
The proposed development has been split
into two habitat display areas. This is
principally to make use of the two different
types of forest environment on the site:
closed forest canopy, and open woodland.
The main (core) development has been located
in a closed canopy environment. Areas for
ungulates and for large water bodies have
been located on the edge of the closed
canopy forest, in more open woodland.
We believe it will be better to develop
built structures in such a way that large
existing trees are incorporated in the detailed
planning layouts. We are also of the opinion
that with due care the forest can accommodate
this type of development without damage.
Constructing facilities in the existing
clearings, we fear, will create more exposed
and uncomfortable conditions, demanding
extra insulation and cooling.
It is, incidentally, necessary to develop
names for the various proposed parts and
components of the development. This is actually
a valuable and important exercise. Readers
of this report are therefore encouraged
to suggest names and titles for the
different portions of the development. We
have for example rather unimaginatively
called the main section of the development
the Core Observation Sanctuary.
It would benefit from having a more exotic
and exciting nomenclature.
