The Land
The rich forest habitat of Cambodia has
been home to unique and magnificent animal
species for generations. Cambodia is located
in South East Asia, bordering the Gulf of
Thailand, between Thailand, Vietnam & Laos.
Cambodia covers approximately 181,040 sq
km of which land covers around 176,520sq
km, and water covers 4,520 sq km. The terrain
is mostly low, flat plains with mountains
in the South West and the North.

Climate
The climate is mostly tropical which means a lot of rain. The Monsoon season is from May to November, with dry season beginning in December and ending in April. There is very little seasonal temperature variation between summer & winter.

People
& Language
The nationality of the people of Cambodia
is Cambodian. Cambodia has an estimated
population of 13,124,764. Ethnic groups
in Cambodia include Khmer 90%, Vietnamese
5%, Chinese 1% and others 4%. 95% of the
population is Theravada Buddhists. Khmer
is the official language of Cambodia, however
French, English, Chinese & Vietnamese are
also spoken.

Country
& Government The Kingdom of Cambodia is also known as Kampuchea or Preahreacheanachakr Kampuchea and was formerly known as the Khmer Republic or Kampuchea Republic. A multiparty democracy under a constitutional monarchy was established in September 1993. Cambodia has 20 provinces and 4 municipalities and the capital is Phnom Penh.

Resources & Industries
Cambodia has many natural resources including timber, gemstones, iron ore, manganese, phosphates & hydropower potential. The largest industries in Cambodia are rice milling, fishing, wood & wood products, rubber, cement and textiles. Natural Hazards & Environmental Issues Monsoonal rains (June to November) have been known to cause flooding and occasional droughts throughout Cambodia.Cambodia is faced with a myriad of environmental issues include logging, strip mining for gems which leads to loss of habitat and declining biodiversity (destruction of mangrove swamps threatens natural fisheries), soil erosion and toxic waste.

Food
Rice & fish are the main staple of typical
Cambodian diets, however many dishes include
beef, pork or chicken. Crab is among the
favorites and is abundant in coastal areas.
Local specialties include Amok (fish in
coconut milk), soups and curries. In Phnom
Penh a variety of cuisines are available
including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai,
Vietnamese, Malaysian, Nepalese, Indian,
Turkish, Mexican, French and Western.
